Now that I’m finally satisfied with how my tumblr looks, I should probably try using it more…
But I’m unfortunately the least interesting person. So that’s probably not going to work.
We just announced the device yesterday, and I got to play with it today (which is why I didn’t talk about it yesterday). Some notes:
- It’s not replacing the nooks that’re on the market already; it’s targeting a whole different segment.
- It’s running Android 2.0, but the GUI is made completely by B&N. B&N will have their own separate app store, and won’t use Android’s marketplace. As the dev guys said at the meeting today, it’s an eBook reader that has tablet features, not a tablet with eBook reader features.
- The screen, while LCD, is laminated. It’s not anti-glare as a whole, but it does reduce it a great deal.
- It has 8 GB on-board storage, and can support up to 32 GB from microSD.
- It doesn’t work with any accessories that exist for the current nooks.
So, having played with it, I can safely say that the market it’s targeting will eat it up. I already had a family of technophiles return the nooks they got to reserve a nook Color (I saw this happening, anyway; they’re so adept that it’s highly refreshing). The use of the AAC and MP4 formats is great because it lets people take content from iTunes and put it on their nook Color (as long as it has no DRM). It also has a full browser, and here’s the kicker: If someone doesn’t have a BN.com account and they get a nook Color, they can make an account right from the nook Color! Thank goodness. Also, as it’s Android, the browser doesn’t have Flash or Java. However, if you enable the HTML5 beta from YouTube’s TestTube page, you can sign into YouTube on your nook Color and watch videos! And it won’t suck! It’s really rather fantastic.
How do you guys feel about it?
;D You know exactly why I’m excited about this prospect. If it can support a comics format, B&N can totally expect me to start publishing short comics via PubIt! Definitely get back to me when you find out about that!
I am excited about manga again.

It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn’t know what I was doing in New York.
I believe what separates humanity from everything else in…
I remember where I was and what I was doing when Bonnie Prince Charlie was killed.
…that American football was only invented when Spain challenged the USA to invent a more boring sport than baseball? It wasn’t easy, but eventually the USA won the challenge. We’ve been suffering ever since.
:( I like baseball.. At least it makes sense. I still can’t figure out what the fuck a “down” is in football and I’ve been told like 50 times by a handful of different people.
Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son” done in 8-bit, AKA “What Supernatural Would Sound Like If It Were a Video Game.”
If you like Supernatural and have ever played a video game pre-1995, you will appreciate this. Hell, you probably will anyway.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE MARIO PAINT
I know nothing of Supernatural, but this is like super nostalgic for me because for some reason I will never figure out, I had a midi of this on my old Packard Bell and listened to it all the time.
